BACK TO NATURE

BACK TO NATURE

‘Back to life’ the hit of 1989 of Soul II Soul.
When I think about my vacation in Croatia, I have precisely this melody in my mind. ..’back to life, back to reality’.
It is the most relaxing, inspiring and natural vacation I had in the last few years. The type of vacation that all people need to experience to unplug from the busy city life. In this millennium that seems to be so complicated and most the people do not know anymore what is Nature. And that doesn’t mean that they have never experienced that, but they have probably forgotten how to reconnect with nature. The life we live every day is so frenetic and chaotic. Living in a city, it is even worst. I cannot do better at this moment than taking a break, a vacation to feel again the sound of nature, the perfume of life and the energy that she gives back.

The road trip to Croatia

Let me tell you a bit more about this summer holiday in Croatia.
My girlfriend and I have not so much free time during this summer, so we decide to reserve 2 weeks anyhow in July to spend some time together. Only the two of us, without visiting friends and family (which I love, but it is not always so relaxing).
So, Marielle and I do not talk about solid vacation plans until the day before leaving. The only thing we know for sure is to go by car. Excitement is the only feeling we have.
We leave on Saturday morning in the direction of Croatia and with our first stop in Austria. We spend one night in the magic and fairytale place. It’s called Dorfgastein, a tiny village on the Austrian Alps and a favourite spot for a ski vacation. The morning after, recharged from the fresh air we step in the car for a short road trip through the Austrian/Slovenian Alps. A magnificent landscape which I suggest to experience once in life 🙂

Finally arriving in Croatia

After 4 or 5 hours driving, we finally reach our first campsite in Krk. A beautiful Croatian islands connected to the mainland with a bridge. No ferry needed this time.
We manage to find a unique spot under the shadows of olive trees. Suggestive view and peaceful spot.

We visit very remote beaches. White rocks and crystal clear water. The pace of mind.
One of the most exciting things is to cook at your camp spot without lots of facilities. But it makes a very cosy atmosphere. Espresso in the morning with our lovely Bialetti Moka, sandwich and fresh fruit for lunch at the beach and relaxing barbeque or pasta for dinner. This is how we have spent the 4 days at the Olive Hill campsite.

We leave this stunning Campsite, and we are pretty sure that we can never find something better. But surprise surprise…

We take a 20 minutes ferry from Krk to Cres, we arrive in Merag, and we drive 1 and 1/2 hours south, direction Punta Kriza. We have read on Google that the this is a quite area immerse in a natural park. Why not trying it.  The campsite is about 20min driving from the closest town. This gives me already a relaxing feeling, far from the noisy touristic areas.

At the arrival at the campsite, and we start to realise that this is even better than the one we have just had. We plan to stay a couple of nights, maximum 4; e end up spending most of our vacation, for a total of 9 nights. I could not imagine that Nature could give me back so many energies and leave back the stress accumulated during the last months (after our trip to Peru’).

Plitvice Lakes – UNESCO Heritage

We have only a few days left before the end of our vacation. So we decide to go back to the Croatian mainland to visit the UNESCO heritage of Plitvice Lakes. Any word can describe that place. I will show only a few pictures and leave Nature the honour to present its beauty.
